Oh yeah, I don’t play multiplayer CoD at all. I know, I know, there’s a whole new game there, but I just don’t play online anymore but for a rare Counter-Strike. I enjoy SP games now, mostly RPGs. I do enjoy the story in the CoD series and still haven’t gotten around to MW3. There are about 40 games on my wishlist!

GoG.com is awesome, and is currently my favorite store, along with Steam. They put their customers first, and their recent case w/ Amanita Design is another proof of their friendly and fair nature.

As for MW2 and 3: multiplayer-wise, MW3 is just an extension of MW2. Single-player wise, it’s a continuation of the story (if you’re interested in it). The only reason I switched from MW2 to 3 is that I won the third on Steam’s Holiday thingy.

Hi bogdanmarginean. LOL. I’ve come to a point where I can use Eclipse fairly well now, but it was a VERY frustrating process of getting it going. And, I don’t dare let it do it’s auto-update thing, because that crashes it repeatedly. I had to do a manual URL change of the update site in order to get that to work after the last patch. So, when Eclipse works, it is AWESOME. I mean, the editor is fantastic. But all of the support tools, updaters, seem to be just the opposite.
p.s. I love the instant lookup when you mouse over an object.!

Have to agree with you; on some projects it was a pain to get the IDE to do what I wanted. There were times when I’d get NullPointerExceptions on ANY button click inside the IDE. Restarting Eclipse used to make things better, but I had to do this quite a lot on some projects, and it really ruined the work flow.
I’m still using it because I can’t think of any better alternative for Android development.

Interesting developments over the years… I sold my NAS drive (network attached storage) which never worked properly like it was advertised to. Today, I’ve completely resolved the “personal data” issue! I use My Documents for everything except for like video editing, because My Documents is fully backed up to a 2nd hard drive regularly. I use the free Cobian Backup software, doing an incremental backup to the 2nd drive regularly. Then, I have a 500GB portable drive plugged in that gets a full dump of that initial 1st backup folder which contains everything. So, any time I need to go on a trip I just grab the portable drive and either put it in the safe or take it with me. Problem solved! I suppose I could just backup straight to the portable drive, but the 2nd hard drive is mostly unused and I like having a 2nd backup in case something happens to the portable.

I still think the original Halo was the best, despite how advanced the graphics are on Halo2 and Halo3. There is something to be said about mechanics, and I think Halo 2 and 3 deviated from the mechanics that made the original so great. When a sequel comes out, I really look forward to an extended story, more weapons, and new stages, but changing the mechanics and completely stripping a game of its primary weapon, the pistol, was just not necessary. I can’t remember how many times a game of CTF was decided by who was the best with the pistol, and how many deranged shooters I took out with a pistol. What needs to happen is for Microsoft to release an online version of the original Halo.

Shenmue7722 it is funny to read this today, 4 years later. Have you played Halo CE Anniversary Edition? It’s fantasic!

Stalepie, it’s been 4 years since you proclaimed that America is great and the naysayers are just spreading doom & gloom. Do you still feel that everything here is hunky-dory, or are you willing to see today what the “whiners” were worried about 4 years ago? I think their comments were fully justified based on the unemployment and home foreclosure rates right now (200,000 homes per month).

Bought this book, but haven’t had time to do much with it yet. Certainly seems promising though.
Learning VB enough to use the book isn’t hard, if you have experience with other languages, but I do kinda question the choice of VB.

Anyway, just wondering if there are any alternatives to Mappy for other OS’s (linux, OS X)

I ultimately want to take what’s in the book and do the same in Ruby.

BTW, I have your Game Programming All in One 3rd Ed, and let me tell you, it’s pretty nice, though heavy. I’m liking Allegro, aside from the pain of getting it installed…
